Printable Wall Calendar For 2013

Photos of a wall calendar for 2013.

Time for printing a new wall calendar for the coming year 2013. This one is similar to the one for 2012 - I made the days a bit bigger, and interwove the months to a continuous flow of days, to save some space. To identify the months, I gave each month its own color. Not sure how happy I am with these changes, but I'll just have to try it in real life and see what improvements I can come up with for 2014...

The calendar is on two pages, with January to June on the first and the rest on the second. The weeks begin with Mondays. Weekends are marked by a less bright white than the week days.

Download the pdf and print it on a regular printer. (The Google Docs viewer doesn't seem to understand transparency, so it doesn't show the month names or the weekend day boxes, but they'll be there when you print.)

The calendar is made in Inkscape, my favorite free vector graphics editor. The correct date/weekday arrangement for 2013 comes from Inkscape's Extensions -> Render -> Calendar function.

File for laser cutting girih tiles

The laser cutter reads vector graphics; a red line means 'cut' and a black surface means 'engrave'. I made an svg file with the girih tiles placed side by side. You can download the file, visit your local Fab Lab, and make your own girih tiles! There is some room for improvement in the file - each side is cut twice, which is a waste of time and possibly burns the acrylic more than necessary. This file works fine, but it would be even better if one would remove those double lines.

Contents of the file:

At the sides of each piece, there is a 'teeth' pattern, which I put there to make the pieces align better. Another 'innovation' is the double black line that forms the outline of a rope tied in an infinite knot, with a crossing at the sides of each girih piece. It turned out that it is possible to design the tiles so that the rope regularly passes above, then below, then above... for any pattern that one builds with them.

Printable Christmas Card

...for family and friends! The card as a pdf.

Print the pdf. Cut out the card by cutting away the grey in the background, halving the larger circles. Then fold along the rows of smaller circles, as in the picture, to make an S-shape. Place in your collection of Christmas cards.

Printable Wall Calendar for 2012

2011 is almost over, and since it's so hard to find a simple and non-hideous wall calendar that one can write on, I made my own. The basic layout is "inspired" by the Bold & Noble calendars.

My calendar is a pdf, two pages, meant for printing on two A4s and sticking together as shown on the right. Download your own and print it on a regular printer. It should work also in gray scale.

The calendar is made in Inkscape, my favorite free vector graphics editor. The correct date/weekday arrangement for 2012 comes from Inkscape's Extensions -> Render -> Calendar function.
